Government Affairs

Our Political Affairs Committee under the direction of our Public Affairs consultant, Heath Clarkston and the Public Affairs Committee Chairperson, work hard to make sure that our building industry is protected – We have worked with the city in the past on the 2009 Building Codes, City Zoning Ordinance, City Sewer Extension, City/County Building Permit Fees, City Sidewalk Ordinance, Mud in the Streets, Mechanics Lien Law and Fire Sprinkler Legislation.

Additional items that have taken shape by the HBA due to continued dedication of the Public Affairs Committee: Creation of an HBA Political Candidate & Ballot Issue Endorsement Policy, Pre-Election Interviews with Candidates for local elected offices, Continued interaction with State, County and City Officials, Continued monitoring of City and County Governmental Bodies, Monitor all State, County and Local Proposals & Initiatives and Fire Sprinkler Legislation

The HBA of Central MO and the HBA of MO and the National Association of Home Builders will continue to monitor all local, state and national issues that may have a potential effect on building in our community.

Theodore Roosevelt said it best: “Every man owes part of his time and money to the business or industry in which he is engaged. No man has a moral right to withhold his support from an organization that is striving to improve conditions within his sphere.”
