Scholarship Guidelines

I. Scholarship Award – (2) Two Scholarships ($200 gift certificates from a member supplier of their choice) each awarded to two second year Nichols Career Center students in January based on the following criteria:

  • good academic standing
  • maintain excellent attendance
  • exhibit scholarship, citizenship, leadership, skill, service and responsibility
  • any ties to members of HBA of Central MO

This scholarship will be presented at the January or February HBA of Central MO meeting. This is a one-time, non-repeating scholarship award.

The Scholarship Committee will make their decision based on recommendations from Mike Schaefer (Building Trades Instructor) and additional faculty members at Nichols Career Center.


II. Scholarship Award – (2) Two Scholarships $1000.00 each awarded in May to two students who will be attending a two (2) or four (4) year college majoring in a construction related field the following Fall Semester – based on the following criteria:

  • Employees or Family of Businesses related to the Building Industry and/or students interested in fields of study related to the industry will get scholarship preference.
  • Some basis of need
  • Must meet close to one or more of the following:

a. Academic Average – meet academic standards

b. School Attendance – 90% attendance rate

  • Participation in Extra Curricular Activities – i.e. student organizations, jobs, community involvement
  • Preference will be given to construction related field – i.e. Construction Management, HVAC, Plumbing, Electrical, Excavating and other specific trades/and/or majors

These scholarships will be presented at the May HBA of Central MO monthly meeting by the President of the association. This is a one-time, non-repeating scholarship award.

III. Selection Process

Coordinate with Nichols Career Center to begin identifying possible candidates.

Send applications to various local high school counselors.

Receiving one of the $200.00 Scholarships does not prevent student from applying for the $1000.00 Scholarship.

All Scholarship Applications will be reviewed by the Scholarship Committee.

Applicants will be voted upon based on the above criteria.

Applicants receiving most votes will be awarded the scholarship.

Scholarship Committee will announce winners to the HBA Board of Directors.


IV. Funding

All of the above is subject to approval from the HBA Board of Directors.

Recipient given scholarship award in letter form, with verification of school enrollment being requested.

Funds dispersed to student and to the School they will be attending in the Fall or to Registrar’s office at selected school in the form of a check.
